Jean-Philippe Marquis is a Vancouver-based documentary filmmaker, DOP, video editor and photojournalist. He holds degrees in journalism from Concordia University and a degree in anthropology from Université de Montréal. His work explores themes of contested geographies, compromised environments and alternative lifestyles.



In 2012, he was the recipient of the IDRC Award for International Development Journalism, which led him to create Kienze, an ethnographic film about the lives and aspirations of miners living in an isolated mine in the DRC.

In 2013-2014, teaming up with journalist Tomas Borsa, he co-directed, shot and edited Line in the Sand, a full-length documentary on the context and consequences of the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline.

Jean-Philippe currently works as a free-lance photographer, editor and camera operator on various documentary projects. Broadcasters includes Radio-Canada, Canal D and TV5.
